Who We Are

Break Away is a national nonprofit based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1991, Break Away is the national alternative break organization. With over 158 chapter schools and 17,000 students, Break Away strives toward our vision of a society of active citizens. Break Away is committed to quality alternative breaks and active citizenship. We accomplish this through being a resource to schools and a thought leader in both active citizenship and alternative breaks. Recently, Break Away launched an effort aimed at active citizens, helping individuals connect with each other and the community.

This is a movement that is focused on social justice and social change. We are active citizens.
